GOLF VS. WEATHER
July 26
If weather was food, today was delicious. If it was a woman, she was gorgeous!
In fact, while pulling my golf cart, I wondered why it was necessary to be toting all that paraphernalia -- it seemed to be only a distraction on such a pleasant stroll. Was it Mark Twain that said, "Golf is a good walk spoiled."? Just kidding, guys.
Aside from the walk, there was a tournament that was being played. 136 guys with golf on their minds, showed up at the Nag at various times to see what they could do, pitted up against 9 or 10 other players. (Note the use of the term "players" rather than "golfers".) The 14 flights were designed to group similar skilled players together to see who was the best among them. For this particular day, it was a "beat your peers" event. Not discounting the prizes, bragging rights seemed to be the more important outcome of the event.
In many instances, there were no runaways. Surprisingly, only two flights' winners were decided by using handicaps.
Congratulations to Buzz Whettam and Jay Mays who carded honor scores in their face-to-face competition against each other. Also "good show" to the other 27 who scored in the 80's and those 19 who played 9 holes under 50. And, of course, congrats to the 14 winners!
